Despite studying linguistics at Leeds University, Masters graduate Richard Makin came back from working in the US with a passion for food and decided to start up his own business.

While living in San Francisco in 2012, Makin developed a love for ice cream sandwiches and the US method of using four ingredients in ice cream products. When he moved back to the UK, he decided to experiment in ice cream making and trained at the School Of Artisan Cooking for 12 months, after which he bought a blue van (called Barbara) and started selling ice cream sandwiches in markets including Camden Kerb, Druid Street Market and King's Cross. Makin now has fans in Time Out London and also has a residency at Gordon Ramsay’s Bread Street Kitchen.
